So, latest buzz is DJ is looking for a big ol payday, to the tune of $90 million. Is he worth it? If you’re asking me it’s a hard no. The 2020 season found him virtually unable to catch and hold on to a ball. The 2021 season saw major improvement, until the end of the season. The issues from the previous year resurfaced coming down the stretch when he was needed the most. Players who are worthy of that kind of money need to be able to perform day in and day out and so far he hasn’t shown that.
So, if you’re asking me, I’d keep him for something like 8 million a year until he proves he can, “if” he can, prove that he can be that steady guy. Otherwise, move on and take a shot with someone else.
